2006, Vacqueyras 'Cuvée de l'Ermite', Château de Montmirail, Rhône, France

Instead of putting in a Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which, in my view, can be over-priced, often banking in on the name rather than the quality of the wine, I have decided to go with Vacqueras where I think there is excellent value to be found. Slightly lighter appellation in the Rhone, there is good concentration of black fruits with the red fruits adding some freshness.
